Welcome to WordLab — the only laboratory where experiments are conducted with letters instead of chemicals.

Inside this book you’ll find 100 pages of word riddles waiting to be solved. Each puzzle gives you a set of ingredients and a grid to fill. Your task is to combine those ingredients into clever words and place them in the grid like a true word scientist.

Some experiments will be simple. Others may leave you staring at the page, wondering if the English language has secretly run out of words. Don’t worry … that’s all part of the research.

Score points for using unusual letters, creating longer words, and completing full rows. The stranger your combinations, the better the results. Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you try something unexpected.

All you need is a pencil, a curious mind, and perhaps a willingness to invent a word or two when nobody is watching.
